As I sit at my desk writing this post about the latest attempt at breeding for one of our pairs of Pied Oystercatchers I realise I have written 677 posts now for this website. This pair of Pied Oystercatchers are using the same nest site as last year, which does make it easy to find. The nest site has moved occasionally since I first observed one on Cable Beach in 2000.

Today I was just feeding my chipmunks walnuts until I realized that two of them had something unusual, a missing part of fur, on their head. As I said, I saw two of them with the hair loss. I managed to take two pictures of one of them, with the less severe one. This one had only a strip of fur lost. The other one had it worse (the one I don’t have a picture of), with a recognizable amount of fur loss on its head I have a few questions and concerns: Is this a disease that I should be aware of?

His right front leg was very swollen and he wouldn’t really walk on it. I saw his drey in the tree above so I think he might have hurt himself exploring. He is safely with a rehabber now and had a good nap, expected to make a full recovery. He was a very good fella and only grunted a little when I scooped him up.?

I am a animal lover. I don’t earn much but live comfortably, have a comfy house and good food. I can occasionally travel. I have several pets and have been donating money to a NGO every month back home (I am from overseas so even if I donate 20 dollars, that’s meaningful to them). I get extremely triggered by any animals suffering, feel bad for buying anything for myself and wish I’d give all my money to them.

Me and my partner almost hit him in the road. We tried to give him water and he drank a little bit. We put him in a box with us in the backyard and kept trying to make him drink. Now he is unresponsive but still breathing. I have been on hold with the closest non emergency police station for 30 minutes and I just gave up since they aren’t picking up and just about gone.

Hi! I'm writing about some wildlife and I was wondering if you guys would have any knowledge about the behavior of wild animals. Specifically in regards to their behavior around humans and firearms. I was wondering if a sizable wolf-pack who has never encountered humans before would react to the sound of a gunshot or even several gunshots fired in an attempt to dissuade their approach.

A lot of times contradictory info came up. Like some artical said.Spider female mates eat there male mates but one said its a myth. Chameleons can regenerate limbs and one said nah thats not true. One said Snakes can hear in smaller frequencies then us and other said thats a myth they just respond to our movement(as when someone trys to play the flute for them).

I am not an animal hater. I had a dog growing up who was loved and treated like a family member. I myself have had a dog who I loved dearly and treated like a child. My mom did/does have a disdain for cats but I’ve never taken that view as my own. I’ve volunteered with animals and feel emotional attachment to animal causes. But my partner got a bunny.

My cats caught a bird and luckily I found him before he was harmed to badly. He has a thing on his leg that says “year 2023” so I’m pretty sure he has a owner. He doesn’t seem to have any physical injury but he refuses to eat or drink. I really don’t know what to do since I can’t take him to the vet. Will he recover on his own? I don’t know id this counts as “sad” content but I’m really freaking out now so I’d be happy if I get some useful advice.

Don’t know if this is the right place to ask but I need a lot of different opinions. What’s your opinion on zookeepers and/or owners of dangerous animals like big cats, apes etc interacting with the animals? Like no barrier between them. Do you think it’s right or wrong? Ive seen people hanging out with lions or walking along side elephants etc and I find it fascinating.

Earlier, while I was lying in bed and using my phone, when two bats entered my room through the windows. Startled, I quickly left my room due to my significant fear of rabies. Just as I was closing the door behind me, one of the bats flew out, only to then dart around the rest of my apartment. In an attempt to protect myself, I wrapped a large blanket around me like armor and proceeded to open as many windows as possible.
