I've always been lucky enough to have a roommate with a pet I can play with. Now I live alone and the house is very quiet. Part of me wants to adopt, but I really don't know how much I can expect to pay in vet bills, food, toys, boarding for vacations, etc. It's to the point where I'm considering just getting a Sony Aibo robot dog and spending all of the costs up front even though I'd lose out on some things like going for walks in the park.
