A crest is a “comb or tuft of feathers, fur, or skin on the head of a bird or other animal” Birds use them for display purposes – they can be either recumbent (not noticeable when not erect) or recursive (noticeable in all states). Quite a few bird species have crests. In fact, crests occur in at least 20 of the 30 orders of extant birds, and in all major groups of passerines.

In memory of Steven M. Wise

Steven M. Wise, J.D., former president of the Animal Legal Defense Fund and founder of the Nonhuman Rights Project (NhRP), died on February 15, 2024, at the age of 73. Wise was a trailblazer in the fight for legal rights for animals. In his book Rattling the Cage , Wise persuasively argued that justice entitles chimpanzees and bonobos to legal personhood and to the fundamental legal rights of bodily integrity and bodily liberty.

The Anniversary Gift: 20yrs

I need a kitten. A male baby. Breed doesn't matter although I love Bengals. It would be great if it was neutered and had its shots but that part I. Can afford myself. We spent our entire holiday and Xmas moving from a two story 3bedroom,2bath into a 2bedroom 2bath apt. We had no money to make this move. We were taken by surprise, caught completely off guard and had no savings or anything.
