During our visit, one was sleeping high in a tree right next to the parking area. Short-tailed Hawk, Black Hawk-Eagle, Brown-capped Tyrannulet , and other species. Black Hawk-Eagle from another day. There is a substantial drop-off, so we are protected from crocodiles too. We had several birds drop in right in front of us during the afternoon. The Black-necked Storks were busy fishing as were the Gull-billed Terns and White-bellied Sea-Eagles. With the change in temperature there are also more freshwater crocodiles visible.

Many Red-eyed Vireos have seen Harpy Eagles , have kept still upon hearing the haunting calls of forest-falcons. Other stops revealed more Red-eyed Vireos, additional Scarlet Tanagers, and a few Summer Tanagers but the biggest movements of birds took place right on the coast. These migratory shorebirds crowd together for protection when they roost at high tide. It is the right time of year to easily identify the Great Knot from the Red Knot , because the Red Knot are now red. After the Common Starling , my second bird of the morning becomes the largest eagle of Europe, the White-tailed Eagle , this one with a fairly white tail, yet still dark beak, that I estimate to be in its 3rd calendar year. Hongbenghe is a very small village in Yunnan, right next to the border with Myanmar. The Crested Serpent Eagle is another species bound to suffer from a naming error in perpetuity. One road simply ends here, giving the place a real end-of-the-world feeling. The White-cheeked Partridge is classified as Near Threatened. A worrying trend.
