I might have to add the Dallas airport staff to the list of things Buffon was right about. Our internet research showed that somebody in Pine County had all three ( Black, Brown-capped, and Gray-crowned ) Rosy Finches on the feeders in their garden. I flew into Denver from Mexico. And now I did. Chuffed to bits!

Arizona, or Central Mexico?

A quick study as I researched this post revealed that fully 37 Arizonan “specialties” are common birds right here where I live. Look in the right place, and year-round you can also find Violet-crowned and Rivoli’s Hummingbirds , Blue-throated Mountain-Gems , and Plain-capped Starthroats here.

We also got an extra stop in Dallas, Texas (Hey wasn’t I just here) but again no birds could be added, unless I count the House Sparrow flying around inside the terminal. When I was doing some very quick, last minute research on the area, a photo of the beautiful Pied-imperial Pigeon popped up on one of the eBird.org pages.

His parents moved where opportunity beckoned, taking him from San Angelo, Texas, to Columbus, New Mexico, then to Dallas, and finally on to California. He had stalked the nest for days, waiting for just the right time when she would be on the verge of fledging, then took her into his care.
