The meat industry will say yes, of course, all animals are treated and killed humanely. For some people, it is inhumane to eat meat in any situation, no matter how well the animal is treated prior to and during slaughter. And if you ever drive around an egg farm, hog farm, slaughterhouse, feeding lot, etc., Here is my opinion.

There will be no pies or cakes that were made with milk that was meant for calves, or eggs that represent dead male chicks , forced molting, debeaking and other mutilations and cruelties. Of course, the world outside of our home tells a different story. There will be no greyhound corpse on our table, no turkey corpse and no pig corpse.

Still, I can’t help thinking that there is some parallel between the mass slaughter of the Passenger Pigeon in 19th-century North America and the mass slaughter of songbirds in southern European countries today. How many eggs did a pigeon lay? How many times did it nest? What a horror! What a disaster! What a wrong!

Yet he spends time describing the miserable deaths of day-old male chicks and understands what happens in dairy production, and I assume he doesn't partake of anyone's eggs or milk. He always refers to himself and his wife and his child as "vegetarian." But why does he say "vegetarian?"
