In case you didn’t know, yes, there is an indigenous peacock living in Africa, the Congo Peafowl. A few years ago, in the American Birding Association FB group I posted a question: Where would you go if funds weren’t a problem? Some are incredibly rare and hard to find.

The Storks of Africa

They are often found roosting in small groups along the edges of lakes and riverine sandbars. Due to disturbance by fishermen, habitat destruction and nest robbing for zoos and bird collections, the Shoebill is now classified as vulnerable. It is also related to Wood Stork of the Americas and Milky Stork of Asia.

Once upon a time, when I started birding, this great family included a wide range of species collectively known as the robins and chats. It all comes back to a split in one of the great bird families, the Turdidae, or thrushes.

The New “Birds of Thailand”

In the back of the book are three indexes, scientific and English names, Thai bird names and bird groups listed alphabetically. It remains restricted to those groups where absolutely necessary (raptors, gulls, etc.), Oddly, not many species are shown in flight. No one is visiting the first and it will remain so for a while at least.
