For some reason that is hard for me to fathom, there is no such bird as a Cape Woodpecker. Races gabonensis and inornatus intergrade in Nigeria; proposed races nigeriae (S Nigeria) and goodi (N Cameroon) not satisfactorily distinguishable from former and latter, respectively. A challenge for young birders, maybe. billion of them.
