Critically Endangered: Sociable Lapwing

In an open Maruti Gypsy, we are heading north from Dasada in the Little Rann of Kutch, Gujarat, along a rather decent tarmac road, between the wheat fields and passing camel carts. CR being the highest category in the Red List , if I want to see some of those birds, I better hurry!

The first Pied Oystercatcher chicks of 2018

One pair of Pied Oystercatchers nest just north of the rocks on Cable Beach and have to deal with the four-wheel drive vehicles and camels on the beach, but as soon as the eggs have hatched out they move the family approximately two kilometres further north through the dune system.

Wedge-tailed Eagles roam the skies, along with Brown Falcon, Black Kites , and Nankeen Kestrels. Speaking of Brown Falcons, here are a couple that were perched just outside Ulara. After driving thru as much desert as we have lately, I was still absolutely shocked, when Jeanne cried out, “CAMELS”!!
