After investigating the area between the towns of Araró and Andocutín, I soldiered on to the equally-small town of Iramuco. While the reedbeds along this town’s southern shore are not actually standing in water right now, the soil is still wet enough to keep them green and, apparently, keep them from burning.

A Bee-eater Summer?

Incidentally, it’s worth mentioning that Martin is convinced that it was the House Martins that decoyed in the Bee-eaters in the first place, and I am sure that he is right. The Bee-eater flock was no doubt flying over when it heard the calls of the House Martins, so came down to investigate.

They don’t need to be professional bird killers either, predators only need to be in the right place at the right time. The rails did indeed come to investigate but came up empty-beaked.

Birding Inirida, Colombia, or river dolphins and hoatzins, part 2

Am I over-confident in my thinking that we were so interesting that they were investigating us for a good half an hour, until we moved further upriver? We sailed right into a group of more than a dozen Hoatzins (cover photo, by Tyler Ficker) with their orange mohawks and blue facial skin. Later, we would be seeing dolphins every day.

I want to trap a mouse that lives in my house and keep it as a pet. Otherwise it takes its chances out in the field. What do you all think?

I'm going to refer to it as just one from now on) is very brave and runs right across the floor when I'm watching TV. I've talked to him and I swear he looked right at me. Dad has been feeding it cheese so they're tight I think it watches aircrash investigations with him on TV. So here's my thoughts.
