This 15,000 sq mi Kalahari desert reserve straddles the South African and Botswana border regions and was created when two national parks were merged – these being South Africa’s Kalahari Gemsbok National Park and Botswana’s Gemsbok National Park. She then paced across the road and stood on the edge of a patch of taller grass.

She talked about what we might see after we remounted the safari truck, which we had just driven out of the campground at the southern end of Kgalgadi Transfrontier Park, where we were staying in the South African camp, just across from the Botswana camp. I once knew a guy who kept and raised cats. But they don’t live in North America.

After one 3 year stint, they left with 131,405 specimens including birds, mammals, reptiles, plants and even human remains (which were only recently repatriated for burial in Africa!) In 1964, Clancey’s “Birds of Natal and Zululand” raised the total to 590. They discovered Gurney’s Sugarbird during their time in South Africa.
