They look crap but presumably offer some protection for the chicks, though not from each other (see the murderous activities within the nests in my previous post ). One nice little story for my blog post lost. Blue-throated Bee-eaters build nests on sticks sticking out of the water. At between 4 pm and 6 pm, to be exact.
