I enjoy collecting children’s books about birds and nature that I come across in the expected (book stores) and unexpected (academic library conference reports) places. The TaĆ­nos named the birds Iguacas, after their call. Spanish settlers arrived in 1493 and called the birds Coterras. The birds thrive.

But those birds have to go somewhere, even if the concentrations that have come to define the above sites have thinned a little by the time the birds cruise down the mountain range. Suddenly, the forest around you begins to shake as birds, mere pinpricks at first, launch themselves into the sky and start their slow ascent.
