Of course, excellent opportunity to go birding with my friends Brad and Laura. My colleague Doug wrote me an email describing the whereabouts of these “rosy finches” and my wife had to manage my excitement with horse tranquilizer… What a fantastic little birds. It is mid-March and I am back in Colorado for meetings.

Last year, I compiled a subjective list of the Top 25 National Wildlife Refuges for Birding. I recently traveled to Texas and made a trip to Hagerman NWR (an “Honorable Mention”), which is north of Dallas. In many ways, Hagerman NWR is similar to other well-known birding refuges. I have to admit that I feel like Duck Dynasty is a tremendous missed opportunity. With Dallas and Dark Shadows getting reboots, and whatever this is existing, why shouldn’t one of our seemingly infinite cable channels take a flyer on a soapy show featuring the lives and loves of the Anatidae? I forgot to set my TiVo!
