Wildlife Rehabilitators vs. Bird Thieves

Many rehabbers raise several crows together and release them on site. The crows are not friendly to humans, although they sometimes make an exception for the person who raised them. Jodi Swenson of Massachusett’s Cape Ann Wild Bird Rescue released a crow named Odin, who occasionally still appears at her open window.

How To Help A Baby Bird

That’s an old wives’ tale that says bird won’t take care of a baby bird with a human smell on it–not true at all. If you cannot find the nest or it’s too destroyed, do not try and raise a chick this young. Never raise a wild goose or duckling yourself.

He was right; a cheerful, enthusiastic group of parka-clad people eventually arrived to watch slides, listen to tales of bird rescue and rehab, and buy some of my books. Each summer Seinna, her father, and her mother Christy raise nestling songbirds as subpermittees of WING-IT. Tuesday was also WING-IT’s fundraiser.

Do Birds Feel Love?

Wild birds I’ve raised from tiny, featherless orphans demonstrate attachment to me, as would be expected for any young creature with a surrogate mother, even a weird, long-limbed primate mother. Needless to say, this makes them quite pleasant to raise. Did Vanna love his cage partner? He certainly seemed lost without her.
