There is a Mallard ( Anas platyrhynchos ) on the label, a familiar and ubiquitous duck that doesn’t seem to call for much discussion here – which suits me just fine, as I’ve got a lot of packing to attend to these days! And Kerckhoven’s native Antwerp (in what is today modern Belgium) was under Spanish rule until 1714.

I have caught a bus across Europe, but I can’t really claim to have “been” to Germany or Belgium. Generally, I need to have cleared immigration and/or spent some time in the country actually visiting it. But you haven’t come here to read my writing about mammals or reptiles, so, yeah, there are also lots of birds.

35 countries were visited during 2019 , 7 of them ( Belgium , France , Germany , Italy , Thailand , Indonesia and Barbados ) bringing new blood to the Country/Territory/Emirate/Republic/Pricipality/Kingdom/Special Administrative Region list which now stands at 55. Hybrid dabbling duck , Rieselfelder Münster, Germany. Also high on my list of favourite birds for 2016 is a hybrid dabbling duck whose parentage I have yet to find out. But … GREAT BUSTARDS!! It is clear that a Common Teal was involved, but the second partner?
