Another lost mammal in the UK now becoming re-established here due to re-introductions is the European Beaver. I’ve yet to see one in the UK, but I had a memorable encounter with one while birding from a small boat on a river in Lithuania. First released into Britain 150 years ago, they have largely ousted the native Red Squirrel.
