I understand what animal activists are trying to accomplish, but every time I read one of these stories, I wonder if this ban was the right thing.

If you want to address the problem, you do something about the people abandoning and neglecting horses. This is about finding "affordable options for unwanted horses," the article says. No, it's about finding affordable options for people to unload their unwanted horses. Where did all the fanfare around horses go?

This article reaffirms my belief that it's more humane to slaughter horses in the US than to ship them for slaughter to Canada or Mexico. I don't like it either way, but one is better than the other for sure.
