I just read on the news that about 20 Andean Condors (Vultur gryphus) were poisoned in Chile. Unlike the unintentional poisoning of these Condors in Chile, people in other parts of the Andes set poisoned bate to eliminate condor. Andean condors are vultures and feed exclusively on “carrion” dead animals.

The Peruvian Pelican is restricted to the cold water of the Humboldt Current along the coast of Peru and Chile. Abandoned fishing line also threatens pelicans along with many marine animals. The Brown Pelican occurs in both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of North America and northern South America.

But the Tortoises and Iguanas (and some other animals, probably) did not come from the nearby South American landmass via what is now Ecuador. It is not the case that the islands we see today were populated by various continental forms of animals and plants which then differentiated. This included some birds as well as a fox.
