Does he own the human members of his "family?" Does he really equate the cows with the human sentients in his family? Can the humans come and go as they please? Are the humans providing Brian with something he is profiting from (maybe hard work, he'd say), and when they stop he will kill them? What does that look like?

As this article notes, as sad as this is, it's only going to spur accusations that animal lovers are also unfeeling human haters. I hope the sanctuary animals find good homes. Tags: animal sanctuary. In other words, we are abominations within our species. It's a load of BS though.

His passion and compassion for humans is immense, but he appears to have some kind of mental block with nonhuman animals. I suppose speciesism/human exceptionalism is at the heart of the matter. He just doesn't believe that other beings lives might have a purpose all their own that is entirely unrelated to humans.

I'm not one of those people who thinks family is composed of only humans or humans who are biologically related. One of the most important things about Deb's blog, Invisible Voices , is that many of the fortunate animals who end up at Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary , where she volunteers, came from family farms.

Other than being a vegan, the most important actions you can take to help animals who are used for food are: Give generously to organizations that help those sentient nonhumans directly, such as Peaceful Prairie Sanctuary , Maple Farm Sanctuary , Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary and Eastern Shore Sanctuary.
