Interestingly, we just went on a tour of the Canadian Rockies where the wildlife corridors and fences were lauded by the tour guide as a way for wildlife to avoid the roads. Apparently, there's room for improvement. From the Calgary Herald. The bear was struck last week and found dead two days later.

In the past I have attributed some of this conflict to differences between the conservation mindset and that of animal rights/animal welfare. And embattled minority should be protected. I still think that distinction is important, but it isn’t sufficient to explain what is going on here.
