Brief commentary follows this e-mail I received regarding greyhounds, animal rights and Ireland. At ARAN many of our volunteers work day and night fighting animal abuse- -we're simply asking you for just two hours during our week of action against the Greyhound industry in Ireland. Need reminding why cruelty to animals is wrong?

Vamsee Juluri, Professor of Media Studies at the University of San Francisco, takes me back to graduate school when he writes of the importance of the stories we tell ourselves in " Use Free Speech to Celebrate Animal Life, Not to Enjoy Their Suffering." Here's my question: What about, say, videos taken inside slaughterhouses?

Armed with new undercover video of four such events, the Humane Society of the United States is pressuring state officials to explicitly outlaw the practice, which the organization says is effectively banned in every other state. Animal rights advocates say it's cruel to the nearly defenseless bears and harms them psychologically.

A funny, heart-warming video called “ SMILE ,” developed by “I’m Tired of” (ITo), the makers of the popular “I’m Tired of Animal Cruelty” bracelet, which raises money for animal rights and rescue charities, has reached viral levels. People have responded incredibly well to our approach.”.

Nathan Runkle, executive director of Mercy for Animals, an Ohio-based animal rights organization, commends Eggland's Best "for finally stepping up to the plate and taking responsibility for their involvement in this abusive facility."
