Morning on Weeks Bay

I felt especially thankful for the cooler air while boarding a touring boat at the Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserv e along the coast of Alabama. Belted Kingfishers looked for fish from atop snags, and Ospreys joined them in the darker recesses of the canopy. Laughing Gulls rested on the water like buoys.

Catching the End of Migration on the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail

Since I live so close to the state line, it’s only natural that I do some of my birding along the Alabama coastline. We were only a few miles from shore, so watching Ospreys and Bald Eagles return with fish from the Gulf was fascinating, as were the Double-crested Cormorants and Brown Pelicans that periodically flew overhead.
