I was happy to read that the wood stork ( Mycteria Americana ), a bird near and dear to me, was down-sited from the status of endangered to threatened species. So many birds of white and gray touched with black. So many immature birds utilizing a palette of brown and ecru, burnt umber, white and black. Describing gull plumage is a combination of science, graphic art, and visual metaphor. So many species that change eye color or leg color as they age. Not to mention the hybrids.
