Dr. Michael Q. Bailey is running unopposed as a candidate for 2024-25 AVMA president-elect. The board-certified radiologist and former member of the AVMA Board of Directors will be elected as the next in line for the AVMA presidency by the AVMA House of Delegates this June when it convenes in Austin, Texas, during the House’s regular annual session.

I finally managed to explore a new area near Bonn, namely the Wahner Heide (heath) bordering the Cologne-Bonn airport. It’s a quite unique spot in the area due to its sandy soils and typical heathland vegetation (I hear you say “duh, it’s heath…”). Y’all should really check this guy out. He makes content on YouTube and works with all kinds of animals most would consider “scary” or dangerous. He also does bite/sting videos like Coyote Peterson but without the fake overreactions plus more information. His vids actually helped me overcome my arachnophobia. Here’s a tag to one of his videos.

As the sole candidate for 2024-26 AVMA vice president, Dr. Gary Marshall will be elected to the office by the AVMA House of Delegates (HOD) when it holds elections during its regular annual session this June in Austin, Texas. Dr. Marshall is an adjunct professor at Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine, a feline practitioner, and the alternate delegate for Washington state in the HOD.

Although many think of the Pacific Northwest as a rainy with lush green forests, the region east of the Cascade mountains is characterized by dry sagebrush rangelands ( shrub steppe ). Much of that original habitat has now been lost to agriculture. However, the region’s dominant river — the Columbia River — which serves as the border for much of Oregon and Washington, also flows through these rangelands.

Now that we’ve all mastered the art of identifying Empidonax flycatchers thanks to a certain field guide published a year ago, it’s time to start working on Kingbirds and Myiarchus flycatchers! I jest a bit, of course, birders will never stop puzzling over Empids. William is a resident peacock at the zoo I volunteer at and has free rein of the property. I must say he’s rather handsome. One of the people in charge of animal food gave me some blueberries to feed him but he was appalled that I wanted him to eat out of my hand and left. He was back like 10 minutes later.

Question about the little fellas. We have them on a site where I'm working and mamma goose is sat on the nest on some eggs daddy goose is round the corner going nowhere near the nest but won't leave the corner just sat on the grass. Is this normal? Will it not go back his Mrs till the babies are born?

We have been a problem for ALL animals for more than 10,000 years, and now we have polluted the earth so bad that flowers are blooming in Antartica, just image your children in the future asking “Dad/mom what’s a penguin?” Or what was a polar bear, we have been killing wild life since humans have appeared, and there’s nothing we can do about it at this point, the damage has been done, humans aren’t important, humans are a mistake.

Was walking today and saw a turtle. I walked up to it but it of course, moved away from me. I stopped and watched it for a minute and saw a bird land by it, not trying to hurt it or something but just felt like landing in front of it I guess. The turtle didn't speed up or go the opposite direction, it just kept slowly crawling, getting right up close to the bird, who didn't even seem to pay it any mind as it passed.
