The now infamous female gator named Godzilla found a new, temporary home at the Bronx Zoo as it not only recovers from the cold as a result of its abandonment, but from a bathtub stopper it swallowed — it is unclear whether this happened before or after it arrived at the park.

Another animal dies at the Calgary Zoo and more questions are being raised about their practices. I don't track zoos, but this seems like an unusually high number of casualties. They were a part of the zoo’s breeding program for the rare birds. In May 2008, 41 of the 43 rays at the Calgary Zoo’s 37,000-litre touch-tank died.

FedEx Express donated services to transport the giant pandas in a special plane named the “FedEx Panda Express”! Two giant pandas made their way from China to ZooParc de Beauval in France today.

The legislation is a proactive federal response that would amend the Lacey Act Amendments of 1981 to prohibit individuals from buying or transporting primates across state lines as pets. 80 would not affect the transportation of animals for zoos and licensed research facilities.

There are the endemics, which are odd in their own way, and then there introduced species, which are so varied in their type and origin that you get the feeling you’ve arrived at the aftermath of a small zoo that escaped. Part of the world they wanted to transport was natural. In many ways, that is exactly what happened.

It seems that quite a few zoos keep Tawny Frogmouths. When these birds breed, this can lead to highly cringeworthy announcements, for example from Adelaide Zoo : “We have egg-citing news!” They just sit and pretend not to be there to avoid interaction.”

TRANSPORTATION. Park in the lot across from Summit Gardens and Zoo, then walk across the railroad tracks. In fact, we saw two species of monkey, our only sloths, lots of coatis, and my rarest ever mammal sighting—a Jaguarundi —right on site. All in all, the Radisson Summit delivered what we all wanted.
