Over 1,000 animals were rescued, including 500 bull finches and 300 picoplats, The rescued wildlife also included monkeys, parrots, macaws and other species from Venezuela. Three corrupt police officers in Trinidad and Tobago robbed a couple of Venezuelan wildlife smugglers and were subsequently arrested themselves.

My husband for forty-three years and I whent to our cabin three days a week for many years. I kept going to the cabin all by myself.

And while we didn’t see or hear a ton of species (29 by my tally) there were some pretty darn good birds in that small total. The fact is that rainforest birding is hard and if a mixed flock doesn’t happen along it is unlikely that you will see lots of birds. She was very cooperative.

It is one of three species of ani ( Groove-billed and Greater Anis are the other two) and together form a unique branch in the cuckoo family. Interestingly, perhaps explaining their widespread distribution that includes many islands, I have observed anis soaring in Venezuela much like a vulture or raptor.

They are the only birds able to fly backwards and the 340-odd species come in many different forms. Its partner is the well-known Ruby-throated Hummingbird , one of the only species of hummingbird that migrates every year. In fact it might just be one of the drabbest hummingbird species out there.
