Some 320 species have been recorded here, and in springtime it is possible to observe more than 150 bird species in a week. Last but not least, there were three species of shrikes, Red-backed , Lesser Grey and at least 2 Masked Shrikes , possibly 2 more, an entire family (not all were showing so well).

He had a legal permit to own them (Conditional Species Permit), and had legally microchipped them according to FWC guidelines. Imagine, for a second, that Chris Coffee owned tortoises instead of snakes. Imagine that the FWC raided his reptile facility and ruthlessly killed 35 of his tortoises. How would people react?

Elephant The big – two species of elephant are now recognized as occuring in Africa, the smaller and more secretive Forest Elephant and the larger, more familiar African or Bush Elephant. The little – the two species of black Buffalo Weavers obtain their appellation from their dark coloration that resembles their fearsome namesake.

These owls use the tunnels of other species as their nesting burrows, and so can be found associated with ground squirrels, tortoises, and prairie dogs. Unlike many other owl species, the male and the female are the same size. They hunt both during the day and into the night, making spotting one more likely.
