The real upside is that it is right by my house and the Tawny Owls occasionally stray into my oak tree at night. There will probably be environmental studies and enhancements to encourage wildlife. After a lot of backing and forthing, the vendor accepted our offer and the wood is to become a trust to be protected in perpetuity.

Welcome Back Waterfowl at Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge

Around thirty miles from Missoula in the Bitterroot Valley lies the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge. My specific goal was to see Trumpeter Swans , which, let’s just say it’s lucky that they’re not my new nemesis species – we spotted a group of three from the parking lot as soon as we got out of our cars.

It is a good place for South African birders, as several species are found here and nowhere else in South Africa, and it holds a small number of endemics that it shares with the Mozambique lowlands. The park did have a pack of African Wild Dogs, or Painted Wolves, the species I had gone to Africa to see.

The Queens List Won’t Stop Growing

Queens, the finest borough in New York City, as I may have mentioned before, is where I have now seen a whopping 279 species! What species will be the ten to get me to 289? Though the boat departed from Nassau County we strayed into Queens for a good portion of the trip. Short-eared Owl – Finally, a bird that I saw!
