Today, 6th April, she got spayed. The vet is telling me he had to perform an abortion because she was around 2 weeks pregnant?! Is the vet confusing her with some other dog?? There were 2 other dogs there for spaying. My dog's heat cycle started on 3rd January. I am so confused.

Ocala, Florida This is Sassy she had been brought into a local vet's office in Georgia, the owner wanted to euthanize her due to just not wanting Sassy anymore, due to owner being pregnant, that's it nothing else! Well the vet refused to euthanize a healthy dog. Sassy was posted on reddit & found a home.

Sometimes, vets recommend cutting back their food intake to reduce milk production. If you have no intention of breeding your dog, the best and most responsible thing to do is have her spayed. Having a dog spayed may also prevent any secondary illness and diseases in the future as well.

Regarding Adam's comment yesterday about low-cost spay/neuter, the reason this particular one is low-cost is that it is subsidized by the county and city (and maybe State, I'm not sure). However, she does have people who can help, and now that Pahokee's open they will focus some time each week on Project Treadstone! Can you imagine?

You may recall that when I took him to the vet (and at that time I thought he was a she) I asked them to check him out and they said he looked fine. There is a Spay-Around-the-Clock coming up, and I'm signing up to volunteer. He didn't look at all comfortable. And if he looked fine he wouldn't have been tested.

Most shelter animals are spayed or neutered, have been treated for worms, and have at least their first set of shots. The Shift: Buy flea and tick medicine and any other pet medications online and in bulk instead of buying them one month at a time from your vet. Save $$: Up to $125 per year or more.

For these reasons, my vet had no problem with me stockpiling Vetsulin. The vets say that Charles' condition doesn't warrant another surgery, and that sometimes it takes a couple of years (!) As for Project Treadstone, after several false starts, trapping, spaying and neutering will resume next week.
