They look crap but presumably offer some protection for the chicks, though not from each other (see the murderous activities within the nests in my previous post ). THE QUEST FOR THE RAREST OWL OF INDIA

This species was discovered (shot, actually) in the 19th century, only to be lost through the entire 20th century. A tin yellow tiger is staring at us from the Melghat Tiger Reserve gates, as the narrow tarmac road winds through teak forest ( Tectona grandis ) along the hillside. I have a quick cup of black tea and off we go.
