In the field, the real-time evaluation process can take significantly longer, especially if the visuals are less than ideal. In forest (particularly lowland) and mangrove swamps on both islands, one can find a Brown-crested Flycatcher or two. The perfect situation of course is for the birds to vocalize, as each is quite distinct.

The goanna was in the process of changing its skin and the reason for the mottled look. On one visit we were surprised that all of the Long-tailed Finch were in the nearby trees and not at the watering point. It was not immediately obvious why.
