Illegal wildlife traffickers provide fake credentials to establish that primates are being legitimately offered for sale. Their ads claim that the primate comes with "veterinary health documents, a "permit" from CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) and a year's health care guarantee.

The controversy over primate research is not going away any time soon, due to the paradox of primate research -- the more similarities between monkeys and humans that are discovered, the more researchers will argue those similarities make it valid to use monkeys in research on human diseases. Animal rights activists stretched a 60-foot banner across the Hawthorne Bridge {Saturday} morning targeting the Oregon National Primate Research Center at OHSU. In support of National Primate Liberation Week, the Portland Animal Defense League hung a banner that read "OHSU: Stop Killing Monkeys Now!"

I didn't know primates were in demand too. Tags: traditional medicine poaching primates endangered species. It's not just tiger parts and elephant tusks that are being used for so called "traditional" medicinal uses. I knew about bush meat, but not about this. Will it ever end?
