The cinematography did present a bit of a problem for me in that I often had difficulties with scale--I didn't know how wide or large things were, and though it might not necessary to know, I like to nonetheless. As I've written previously, I never pushed him to go vegan, and now that he is I don't push him to do any vegan education.

I've never watched it, but heard it talked about on a vegan podcast. It's supposed to be so intense, it turns people into vegans (Ellen DeGeneres for one.) "Earthlings" is a film about animal abuse narrated by Joaquin Phoenix. For those who can't handle the visuals, now it's available as an audio book.

I've been out of every loop I used to be in because my work outside of veganism and animal rights came a-calling in a most critical way. There are new Francione-style abolitionists and new people to veganism who debate about the ethics of consuming eggs from their neighbor's chickens. Yes, we have a long, long way to go.

Objectively, however, though the use message is there, believe it or not, you can talk about enslaving animals and still not present a clear vegan message. Or any vegan message. But that's because the message isn't developed.

I don't know if she has ever claimed to know about the dangerous carcinogen found in grilled chicken, but to hawk such a product after the information and experts she has presented to her audience is the height of hypocrisy. Vegan education/advocacy for animals is easiest for me when I know my audience. As far as I know, all I accomplished was presenting myself as an angry person who people didn't want to talk to again. I always used the words "flesh" and "enslavement." I don't think any of that was wrong, per se. maybe I used the word "murder."

Today's New York Times gives us Adam Shriver's Op-Ed " Not Grass-Fed, But at Least Pain-Free ," which presents its dilemma at the end: If we cannot avoid factory farms altogether, the least we can do is eliminate the unpleasantness of pain in the animals that must live and die on them. That action is to opt out and go vegan.

I'm sure intelligence was in there somewhere, but the fact is that gorillas are presented as more important and more human than other animals, therefore they are worthy of saving. I'm not saying they all have it or that they understand destruction and cruelty and their actions have those intentions, but I wonder if vegan parents have to fight what they see as wiring, or if it simply depends on the child, or if it depends on the parent. So if you don't like someone's style, see if you can look beyond or beneath that for the meaning (though sometimes it is admittedly difficult to separate the presentation from the substance). They don't see veganism as related to their fight against dog racing, at first (or second. ). And I understand that point.

One argument is this: The present practice of treating animals used for food is immoral and should be changed. So, if one wants to change the present practice, the best means is to stop eating meat.
