On our trip to Palm Springs last year we visited the Halls Creek Poo Ponds and that was an excellent place for bird watching and even better was the fact that there were Pink-eared Ducks present. The birds present were feeding rapidly as if they were anticipating the weather that was approaching from the north.

Birding a monastery: Zhaga, Western Sichuan

So, maybe not be the best place to visit for monks suffering from depression. Not very subtle in their self-presentation, these birds. It had a bit of a desperate feel to it to me – almost no monks visible, many of the buildings crumbling or already deserted, and the practice of feeding pheasants apparently already discontinued.
