PETA Supporters Protest at Westminster

Critter News

I am a total supporter of this protest. Tags: breeders dogs PETA While there may be responsible and loving breeders out there, they are only contributing to an out-of-control supply problem. There are too many animals out there and not enough homes. Why don't they stop making things worse? It's plain supply and demand. If they love animals so much, love the ones who NEED homes! We are not encouraged to love only pure-bred humans of certain racial lines.

Ex NASA Employee Joins PETA Protest

Critter News

April Jean Evans was a NASA engineer, but resigned her position in protest over radiation experiments on monkeys. She's living with her brother now and falling into debt, but she is dedicated to working with PETA and other organizations to try to ban primates in experiments. It was a PETA protest outside her work location that alerted her to the experiments in the first place.showing that any action in defense of animals may have impacts on people that we don't even realize.

PETA Protests Military's Testing on Pigs

Critter News

The protest happened on Wednesday. And that's what I like about PETA and why I recently became a member for the first time. Tags: animal testing animal cruelty military pigs medical research PETA I'm late on this one. But it's worth noting that someone out there took some action on this gruesome story. They are fast, organized, committed and they get attention.

Protest To Stop Pointless Radiation Experiments

Critter News

PETA organized protests to stop these stupid radiation experiments on spider monkeys. The purpose is to determine how astronauts would fare on the way to Mars. To Mars? We can't even get out of Afghanistan and we're going to Mars. Next year? Give me an effing break.

Newfoundland MP Says PETA Pie Throw Could be Terrorism

Critter News

She's referring to the pie thrown in the face of Fisheries Minister Gail Shea by a PETA member protesting the Canadian seal hunt. Tags: canada animal enterprise terrorism act seals PETA It's pretty scary that a Liberal MP would actually question whether a pie in the face is terrorism. I'm wondering whether the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act in the US is making the rounds of Canadian politicians.

I credit Will Potter as the catalyst for shifting my focus away from critiques of other activists and activist groups (particularly his post, " While the Government Continues Attacks on Activists, Animal Rights Groups Protest Each Other " back in 2008). I'm not saying that criticism of PETA, or any other group, isn't warranted. SHAC 7 Trailer from Sparrow Media on Vimeo.

US Retailers Concerned Over Australia's Delay in Ending Mulesing

Critter News

Mulesing, in which woolgrowers surgically remove parts of merino lambs' rears to prevent potentially fatal flystrike, has sparked demonstrations and litigation by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). Such an awful practice. But, as is typical with many large industries, there is a resistance to change unless there is a clear and immediate profit windfall. Why change for welfare purposes if there is no clear economic benefit?

Animal Rights is Pernicious Nonsense?

However, both his perceptions and misconceptions are based on: 1) observing the work of PeTA and HSUS; and 2) the assumption that those two organizations are in the same category--"animal rights." Yes, they post things on their websites and magazines for the benefit of the true believers, but we don't often see them protesting outside the local shoe store to get free television coverage by spray painting a working mom's new pair of sensible leather shoes.

Book Chronicles History of Animal Rights

Critter News

The Longest Struggle: Animal Advocacy from Pythagoras to PETA by Norm Phelps came out in 2007. Worth a look. In a brisk, readable narrative, The Longest Struggle traces the campaigns of animal rights pioneers like Henry Spira, Alex Hershaft, and Ingrid Newkirk, as well as leaders who have come more recently on the scene like Heidi Prescott, Karen Davis, and Bruce Friedrich.

The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing" - Albert Einstein 1879-1921 One of the best ways you can help ARAN is to get actively involved with our ongoing research, lobbying, events, projects, peaceful protests and tabling events across Ireland. Also, John Carmody is PETA's spokesperson for Ireland. Brief commentary follows this e-mail I received regarding greyhounds, animal rights and Ireland.

Why No Fuss About Michael Vick?

Critter News

I know plenty of people still detest Vick for what he did, but if there are protesters at his games or outside the Eagles’ training facility, I haven’t heard about them. But where's PETA? Michael Silver, some Yahoo Sports guy, has a column about why Michael Vick's return to the NFL has turned out to be so anticlimactic (I was wondering the same thing myself recently.) These are his thoughts.
