Penguins here! <pause> There are few bird names that will elicit great big smiles and Penguin is one of them. I’ve been fortunate to see two Penguin species in the wild (African and Galapagos) and have dreamed of seeing more–maybe even all! <pause> Do I have your attention now?

Perhaps because of threats to the ecosystems of the many places the Arctic Tern visits (Europe, Africa, South America, and North America), it may be on the decline. It probably helps that they weigh less than 5 ounces! You can learn more about their incredible journeys here.) .

We are told the scenic beauty of Alaska is only rivaled by that of the Patagonian and Antartic region in extreme South America. May be in the future I will get to write about king and Emperor Penguins , and South Polar Skuas. Alaska was incredible.

Donna had an embarrassment of riches to choose from: It’s a tie between the Willow Ptarmigan in New York State, the confiding Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo in Panama, and Hoopoe and African Penguin in South Africa. Donna’s BBOTY – an African Penguin. Yes, it was an exceptionally good year.
