Fur and Fangs rather than Feathers and Beaks

On another trip, this time to Slovakia, I heard wolves howling, a wonderfully spine-tingling sound. No, not an Arctic Fox, but a Red Fox in Arctic Finland I may not have seen many wolves, but I have seen lots of foxes (or what I should perhaps call red foxes). At the time we were looking, without success, for White-backed Woodpeckers.

Saving Marine Animals that Are NOT Cute

Examples include panda bears, wolves, elephants, tigers, etc. People want to save the dolphins and the sea otters, but what about the bluefin tuna? It's those species that either have a powerful personality or a cute face that endear people to them and garner news attention. It's the same problem with marine life.

You can make a similar map for the small carnivores, the Mustelids, such as minks, ermines, otters, etc. Dogs are similarly dispersed across size ranges, with Foxes, Coyotes, and Wolves taking prey across different parts of the size range. Smaller and larger animals (if there are any) are taken by other creatures.
