The killing of Cecil was equated with murder, a moral crime rather than a symptom of a ecological problem. Animal rights is concerned with individual animals, and their suffering and welfare. If tourists are too dim to tell Sierra Leone from Botswana or Tanzania, do we really want to rely on them to save Africa’s species?
