The arrival of 48 monkeys on a flight from China this weekend has brought Air Canada under fire for shipping primates destined for research laboratories, but the airline says it is obliged by federal law to accept monkeys as cargo.

We managed to see both species of monkey, though – so we were ultimately well satiated. Makes sense in retrospect, as I have also seen this species on the rocky northeastern tip of the island within the littoral forest there. Occasional fly-bys of pairs and trios of Red-bellied Macaws kept us on our toes.

My personal favorites are the images that show the relationships that are at the heart of this book–a Linneated Woodpecker perched opposite a bromeliad on an exposed tree, Azteca ants on a cecropia tree whose decaying parts provide food, and, a little distressingly, two Capuchin Monkeys feeding on a Toucan (thanks to James Adams).

When they surface, the tips of the snout, biosonar “melon” and dorsal fins appear simultaneously, the tail rarely showing before diving. and near-endemic Golden-backed Uakari monkeys ( Cacajao melanocephalus ).
