Arizona, or Central Mexico?

I got back into birding less than a decade ago, long after moving to Mexico in 1983. This would sound attractive even to me, except for one fact: almost all of those exotic and beautiful species are common down here in central Mexico. But those are all full-time residents of central Mexico, with the exception of the Red-faced Warbler.

But as I started to research this post, I was reminded that I actually live in the center of this Warbler’s range. southwest, but it is a permanent resident in western Mexico and parts of Central America.

For day 2 of the conference, we headed out to the Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve to look at some in-progress projects. Since I was so close to the beach, I couldn’t resist crossing the road and taking a gander at the Atlantic Ocean before returning home to the Gulf of Mexico.
