Thought-provoking article in the Boston Globe.some green thinkers are now coming to a surprising conclusion: In exceptional circumstances, they say, the only effective way to protect the environment may be at the barrel of a gun. For example, a government might refuse to protect - or even willfully destroy - its own natural treasure, as when, in the 1990s, Saddam Hussein's regime drained the wetlands that were home to the persecuted Marsh Arabs.

Torn about Guide Dogs

I know that they provide an important service, but what kinds of protection do they have? This way, they can protect the dog and, in cases of abuse, take it back without any legal hassle. (I I couldn't find confirmation on the site, but read about them in Healthy Pet magazine.) I am very torn about guide dogs. I've heard of the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation which supposedly doesn't allow the blind person to actually own the dog.

We support two ocean protection organizations: People for Puget Sound (local) and the Ocean Conservancy. I was reading Ocean Conservancy's magazine today. The purpose is to protect ocean species as a whole. For the past couple of issues I've read, it has had a "sustainable seafood recipe." I understand that they are trying to encourage people to eat fish and other marine life that are not part of a collapsing fishery.
