It is important to drive slowly due to the crossing of the road of Eastern Long-necked Turtles ! We encountered one crossing the road in 2012, but with the cooler weather this year there was less turtle activity. Eastern Long-necked Turtle. This year we had Satin Bowerbirds hopping across the road instead! Satin Bowerbird bower.

We didn’t see the crocodile, but there was a Flatback Turtle in the creek. Sacred Kingfisher The edge of the creek as we got closer to the ocean was littered with pearl shells and we presume that these must have broken free during the cyclone season earlier in the year. There were some rather nice specimens.
