Nils Olav, a king penguin on the Norwegian King's Guard , was bestowed a knighthood for simultaneously defusing an IED while taking out a machine gun in Iraq. OK, I don't think Norway even has troops in Iraq. Update - They have it on video! The IED was already defused. Apparently he got a little nervous when he saw he sword.

So, here we go… Fighting in Iraq has been affecting starlings. But in Iraq, and more exactly, Kurdistan and Iraqi Kurdistan, they are supposed to be there (and are regularly hunted and eaten) and the fighting is not supposed to be there. BBC has the story as a video.
