A lot of these animals are reptiles, spiders and amphibians, which explains the large number. This rescue is the result of a PETA undercover investigation. The raid followed an undercover investigation by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals. that was allegedly mistreating its animals. From the Detroit Free Press.

Anyway, I'm wondering if the decision could have been influenced by PETA's investigation of how reptiles are being skinned alive for these sales. I didn't know they were doing this in the first place! And I just bought something from them last month for the first time. This PETA post doesn't claim the credit though.

Common Tree Snake coming forward to investigate us. The Common Tree Snakes eat frogs, small reptiles and small mammals and due to their agility it would not be hard for them to capture something around here! Note the Common Tree Snake goes up and around to the top of the photo and I cut some off!

Free-roaming cats will hunt and kill birds, small mammals, reptiles, amphibians and fish, resulting in wildlife mortality. If left unchecked, free-roaming cats will breed and their populations increase at locations where they find suitable shelter and food, resulting in environmental/property damage, and public nuisance.
