Here is a New York Times story about gray wolves, who are no longer on the protected list in Montana, Idaho, and Wyoming. If you haven't read Barry Holstun Lopez 's 1978 book Of Wolves and Men , you should do so. It changed my life.

They have great arch support and toe protection and are great for hiking. I remember years ago when one of my sisters came with me on a birding trip to Idaho. They are meant to be used as water shoes when canoeing but I have found that when worn with wool socks, they can even take temperatures a few degrees below freezing.

There were birders from a wide cross-section of the United States: Colorado, Ohio, Idaho, Iowa, Wyoming, Washington State, Pennsylvania, New York State, New Jersey, California, Texas, Florida. The leopards place their kill in a tree, protecting it from poaching by other predators. So, the best way to find a leopard is to find the kill.
