Last week I wrote about the interesting hunting habits of our local Harris’s Hawks. There is a small population in Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia, and northern Argentina. Today I will cover another one of Mexico’s Baja Peninsulas characters, the Zone-tailed Hawk Buteo Albonotatus.

Protecting the Hyacinth Macaw and the Cerrado

Illegal capture for the wild animal trade is an obvious peril for such a charismatic species, but this big blue bird is also hunted both for its meat and feathers. Last but certainly not least, the macaw suffers along with the other species in its ecosystem from rampant habitat destruction and deforestation.
