But along the way, up to 18,000 per year fall victim to illegal hunting for food and sport. Which makes him a formidable candidate for the prestigious prize.

Big Ticks; What Was Your Last New Family?

Here in New Zealand te only potential big tick would be a lost vagrant painted snipe, and we’ve already established that I don’t enjoy that kind of vagrant hunting. I’m fairly sure the only family I’m missing in Europe is the Wallcreeper (Tichodromadidae), assuming you don’t lump it with the nuthatches.

When we were at an amazing rock formation, called the Olgas, or Kata-Tjutas as the locals call them, this Nankeen Kestrel hunted all around me for well over 30 minutes before drifting away in search of better hunting grounds. This Wedge-tailed Eagle was sitting along side one of the roads, eyeing a small road killed Kangaroo.

In one study , the bird used electric power lines as a perch in 63% of all hunts, which makes me wonder how the bird survived before there were power lines. Birding across the north of Australia in July

Flock Bronzewings were in the hundreds through this area and Nankeen Kestrels hunted small prey through the grass. Red Kangaroos often stood in the middle of the single lane bitumen across the north of Australia and were in no rush to move on. Red Kangaroos. Australian Bustard. An area of highway that floods.
