The sanctuary is of global importance, a complex of mudflats, salt marsh, coastal prairie uplands and open beach owned and managed by Houston Audubon Society. They did flush eventually, but not because of humans. I was at Boy Scout Woods, one of the High Island sanctuaries owned and operated by Houston Audubon.

Pet Paradise was formed in 2002 and currently has 13 facilities in operation of which nine are located throughout Florida; two are in Houston, and one each in New Orleans and Charlotte. There are two invasive human commensals (a House Sparrow and a Rock Pigeon), two fully-domesticated fowl (both a rooster and a hen), one introduced gamebird (a partridge), and a penguin I didn’t identify but which seems to have been added mostly for a little wildcard variety. One of the advantages of Morelia as a birding/tourist destination is that we receive direct flights from Houston on United, Dallas/Fort Worth on American, and Los Angeles, Oakland, San Jose (California), and Chicago/Midway on the Mexican carrier Volaris.
