I ended up looking for photographs of Peregrine hack sites, captive breeding aviaries, Hawaii tropical forest, and the California Condors of the Grand Canyon on the Internet. There is a beautiful photograph of a Peregrine Falcon on the cover and smaller photographs of Hawaiian Crow and California Condor on the back cover, but I want more.

When you think of invasives, you think of the birds that have been helped by human beings to get where they are, such as House Sparrow or European Starling. Cattle Egret has been introduced by humans to Hawaii and the Seychelles. Other species have certainly expanded their ranges, but never in such a rapid and global scale.

The Blue Whistling Thrush is presumably named for its loud human-like whistling, and possibly for being blue. The male Grey Peacock-Pheasant looks quite attractive, though most human males would rightfully shudder to wear a shirt covered in purplish dots. The White-cheeked Partridge is classified as Near Threatened.

I’ve only been to Hawaii once and can’t really complain about not having seen Maui Parrotbill or Crested Honeycreeper , but both look really special. Every human does. But Black-crowned Antpitta and Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo are very high on the list, as is Magellanic Woodpecker. Nobody else will do it for us.
